2010 Brian Mickelsen Housing Hero Awards

NOMINATIONS FOR 2010 ARE NOW CLOSED.

Since 2004, ADOH has celebrated the achievements and service of communities, individuals and private sector groups with the Housing Hero Awards. In 2008, the name of our friend, Arthur Crozier was added to the Partner in Housing Arizona award to acknowledge Arthur’s service to the state of Arizona.

Nomination Forms are published in the spring and winners are notified a month prior to the Arizona Housing Forum. The awards are presented during a special luncheon at the Arizona Housing Forum, the time and date to be determined. 


Evaluation factors include vision, originality, implementation, results, and the ability to be replicated.

For 2010, nominations are being accepted in these six categories:

Innovative Partnerships


Recognizes a creative partnership with an affordable housing or community development focus. Eligible nominations include those that result in responsive housing programs, support services, units for rental or homeownership, financing arrangements, or public-private participation.

Exemplary Multifamily Project

Recognizes an outstanding multifamily rental project that serves low to moderate income individuals, families or seniors. Eligible nominations include rental projects that have completed construction in the past year and have one or more of the following elements: 1) Outstanding architectural design; 2) Transit orientated design; 3) Green building technology; 4) Mixed use; 5) Preservation/revitalization; 6) Serves a public benefit, such as housing for chronically homeless, children with special needs, parents of special needs children, aging in place with children, etc.
 
Outstanding Local Housing Program


Recognizes the efforts of a local program that creates, improves or promotes affordable housing. Eligible nominations can include activities such as 1) housing construction or rehabilitation (rental or homeownership); 2) a coordinated community development or neighborhood revitalization strategy with a housing element; 3) special needs programs including homelessness and supportive housing; and 4) activities focused on education relating to affordable housing including foreclosure and homeownership counseling.


Superior Sustainable Design


Recognizes outstanding design and/or use of alternative materials in affordable housing units or developments. Eligible nominations include new construction, substantial rehabilitation, or adaptive reuse. The units or developments should exemplify superior sustainable design that is compatible with the surrounding natural or built environment while meeting the needs of the intended residents.  

Tribal Initiatives
Recognizes achievement in helping to meet the housing needs of tribal members in Arizona through the provision of housing and/or services. Eligible nominations include housing construction or rehabilitation projects, programs to promote economic self-sufficiency and asset building, infrastructure improvements, and community/ master planning on tribal lands.


Arthur Crozier Partner in Housing Award


This award celebrates the single action or a lifetime of successes of an individual committed to improving the lives of families and the health of communities through recognition that decent, affordable housing is basic to our social fabric. In 2008, this award was renamed to honor the service of Arthur Crozier, a longtime Arizona realtor and member of both the Arizona Housing Commission and the Arizona Housing Finance Authority.
